Meeke: “I had these old Pointe Shoes I didn’t want to throw away. A friend suggested to paint them and I did. I made many beautiful and colorful designs bringing my dance calligraphy art onto it. It made me think though. The look of the everyday pointe shoe has not changed since 1832. There is so much variation in leotards, legwarmers and skirts for the ballerina’s but there is nothing to give more flair and elegance to the everyday pointe shoe in ballet class or even for a performance, without having to dye the shoe. It is maybe time for a change and bring more variation and color onto the pointe shoes in an easy way so dancers have more choice in general and can give their shoe more personality.
The designs I made are at this moment developed into strong, durable, affordable, cute, removable (with no harm to the pointe shoe) and beautiful pointe stickers the ballerina can easily adhere to the pointe shoe. They are called “Pointe Elegantia’s”. The first matte black and pink pointe sticker are made and they look great, see the video! Each design has a positive name like Classy, Bliss, Blossom as I want to encourage the ballerina to keep putting on their pointe shoes despite the often frustrating pain. With 💕
